2009;

This project is among the three winners of the 2009 Biennial Sculpture Competition hosted by Zahner® Architectural Metal and The Kansas City Art Institute. The contestants submitted drawings and a working model. The winning models, which Zahner® engineers translated and enhanced into Digitally Defined CAD models were then sent forward for production. Zahner® craftsmen then built this sculpture to the Joey Grimm's specifications.

The column is made of aluminum which assists the magnet's range; the dark patina exudes the look and feel of gun-blued steel, distancing it from what one would normally perceive as aluminum. As the magnet within rotates, so do the ball-bearings on its exterior.
